As the 2008 NCAA football gears up, enthusiasts are laying down their prospective bets and choices. A good way of deciding which to bet on should be based on the latest developments and news.
August 1:
Sports betting experts and analysts all agree that the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) is the toughest and most talented in the south east, only behind the SEC. In particular, the Atlantic division has always featured the cream of the crop in NCAA college football.
There are a lot great teams in the ACC, but the betting pick (10-2) are the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Led by Jim Grobe, plus a host of other returning key players, not only are the Deacons poised to win the Atlantic but might go through it all undefeated.
Picked for second (9-3) are the Clemson Tigers. Led by the trio of James Davis, C.J. Spiller and Cullen Harper, the Tigers boast what may be the best offense in the league.
Projected good for third (8-4) are the Maryland Terrapins. Despite the lose of E.J. Henderson, their offensive line can go with the best in the conference, although they have some tough road games.
Expected to end up 4th are the Boston College Eagles (7-5), who will be hard pressed to find someone to replace Matt Ryan. The Florida St. Seminoles (7-5) will be fifth but if Drew Weatherford can come up with something they may have a few surprises.
At sixth will likely be the NC St. Wolf Pack (3-9). Despite having Tom O? Brien, the Pack will be without their best tacklers this season, not to mention their struggles on defense (allowing 28 pts per game).
July 29:
The other big news concerns the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats will be squaring off against Louisville on 31 August, but there are a lot of questions surrounding Coach Rich Brooks? team. One of them is who will take the place of quarterback Andre Woodson.
The problems were compounded when Curtis Pulley and Will Fidler were arrested by authorities recently. Pulley was charged by police for traffic violations on 22 July, while Fidler faces disorderly conduct charges while in Lexington. Even if coach Brooks gets them back in shape, there is the matter of who among Fidler, Pulley and Mike Hartline will get Woodson?s position.
July 22:
Am announcement was made by the Sun Belt Conference that they had forged deals with the PetroSun Independence Bowl, papajohns Bowl, and St. Petersburg Bowl.
July 17:
In a blow to the Florida Gators, it was announced that their safeties John Curtis and Dorian Munroe both sustained injuries to their knees and will sit out the entire season.
Munroe is suffering from a torn ACL on the right knee, which will require surgery, effectively ending his season. Munroe participated in 26 games for the Gators the previous two years and had 13 special team tackles, the best among the Gators last year.
Curtis, meanwhile, tore an ACL on his left knee. It is the third time that he has sustained this injury and has had two major surgeries. According to Coach Urban Meyer, this third ACL might force Curtis to retire.
July 16:
According to the BCS Championship Odds (2008-09) the following are the odds makers top betting picks. USC +300, Florida +600, Oklahoma +600, Georgia +600 and Ohio State +600.
